Local Callers and Cuers
Pat & Wanda McBride
A native of Steamboat, CO, Pat started square dancing in the fall of 1972 at Colorado State University with the Aggie Haylofters club. To save money, the club encouraged interested members to learn how to call just enough to do a tip at their dances. Pat took the bait and has been calling ever since. Pat enjoyed a long career as a medical technologist. As a 50-year member of CALLERLAB and ROUNDALAB, Pat currently calls and cues for the Chatfield Country Kickers, the Greenridge Mountaineers and various other clubs and events around the state. He’s served for many years at local Council and State Association offices and is active with the History Alive Chautauqua every September.
Wanda started dancing in 1977 in Craig, CO and continued to dance through high school and college. She moved to Grand Junction in 1983, met and married Pat, and has served square dancing at the local and state level ever since. She is a Master Gardner and helps organize the Western Slope Cowboy Gathering every November. She is also an avid quilter and loves to sew.
On their farm in Grand Junction, Pat and Wanda famously raise purebred Fainting Goats along with horses and chickens.

Ervin Wyatt
Ervin, the youngest of 7 siblings, started dancing in 1975 when his mom decided to get the whole family involved in something fun. Ervin kept on dancing and even danced with his now-wife Nancy before they knew each other. In 1993, When Ervin and Nancy got married at the Carriage Stop in Colorado Springs, the reception (of course!) featured a square dance.
As time went on, several callers asked Ervin if he’d ever thought about calling. He kept saying “no” until their club lost its caller in 2004. This time, it was Nancy who wondered if he’d thought of learning to call so he could teach new dancers. This time, Ervin said “yes”.
Ervin went to his first caller school in 2005 and taught his first class in 2006. In 2010, he started a small club in Gunnison, CO which lasted until 2019. He is now calling Mainstream (SSD) and Plus levels for the Black Canyon Twirlers of Montrose and the Delta Hub Wheelers, as well as guest tips. For Ervin, it’s all about seeing all those happy people enjoying themselves on the dance floor. Ervin is available to call for dance events or demos at the ABC, SSD, MS, & Plus levels.
