Mike & Tani McNees
Sharing the Joy of Dancing
Originally from Redondo Beach, California, Mike grew up in Sandy, Utah where he met Utah native Tani in high school. They went to a few dances together, mostly just swaying back and forth. Mike joined the Army National Guard after he got out of high school, but stayed in touch with Tani. They married September 8, 1990 and have built a full life together — seven kids (five girls, two boys) and two grandchildren, a boy and a girl.
Mike went on to earn a degree in computer science and works as a Mechatronics Development Manager for a robotics company. Tani runs her own massage therapy business. They’ve called Logan, Utah home for the past 19 years.
Mike and Tani began round and square dancing in 2015 and started cueing in 2019. They teach round dance classes in Logan and Ogden and also help teach square dance classes for their local city recreation program. Their continuing education includes caller school with Jerry Junck and ongoing ballroom coaching with Krista Derrington.

They are grateful for the guidance of their mentors, LaMont & Laraine Harris and Steve & Judy Storm, and they enjoy supporting the activity through teaching, cueing, and community events. Mike also developed a free app for cuers to manage music and cues. Mike and Tani are members of ROUNDALAB, CALLERLAB and ICBDA. They love sharing the joy of dancing and helping dancers feel confident and connected on the floor.
